Knowing how to warm your baby’s milk on-the-go is one of the first and most important parenting lessons that you’ll learn.
Though tiny, babies can make a big fuss about the temperature of their milk. So, for those times when you can’t get by with room temperature bottles of milk, you’re going to want to know the fastest and simplest ways to reheat your baby’s bottles.
Essentially, you have three options:
- Get by with room-temperature milk (if and when you can!)
- Get ahold of some hot water
- Bring a bottle warmer with you
Read on for a little more information about each of these options to see which one fits best with your lifestyle and bottle-heating needs!
Room temp milk
If your baby is on board with a bottle of milk at room temperature, then you have no problem!
When formula feeding, simply bring your formula powder, water, and an empty bottle with you - then prepare your baby’s bottle in less than a minute as soon as you see the first sign of hunger. Note that formula shouldn’t be kept out of the fridge for any more than 2 hours (1 hour from the start of feeding), so you’ll have to throw anything unused.
If you’re expressing milk and feeding your baby from a bottle, remember that breast milk will last out of the fridge for up to 4 hours. Simply remove a bottle of your breastmilk from the fridge (or prepare a bottle by expressing) before you head out and ensure that your baby drinks it within the following 4 hours.
Easy!
If your baby is a bit picky about the temperature of his/her milk, you’ll want to opt for one of the following options.
Get some warm water
Ask a nearby restaurant or coffee shop for some warm water - hot water can damage the nutritional value of the milk as well as potentially making your baby’s milk too hot.
To use this method, you might want to bring some sort of collapsible bowl or container with you that will fit both the warm water and the bottle of milk. Let the bottle of milk rest in the warm water for several minutes, then shake the bottle to remove any cold spots and check the heat by dropping a little of the milk onto your write.
Use a bottle warmer
Arguably, the most simple and self-sufficient way to heat your baby’s milk at a moment’s notice is to bring a bottle warmer with you when you’re on-the-go.
Bottle warmers were created to help busy parents who are often on-the-go and in need of a way to make their lives easier. And we can say with absolute certainty that they most definitely do their job.
A Tempo Baby bottle warmer is lightweight, easy to fit in your diaper bag, and can be charged quickly through a USB connection. It also features 3 adjustable temperatures so that you can get your baby’s milk preferences just right.
The takeaway
If your baby is fussy when it comes to the temperature of their milk, know that there are many options - none of which involve you never leaving your house for fear of your baby’s response to lukewarm milk.
We’re curious, which method do you use to heat your baby’s milk on-the-go?
